AFSCME 3299: Granted Strike Sanction

Patient care and service workers, after voting 97% in favor, are going on strike!

This strike comes after almost a year of stalled contract negotiations and mediations. Now, there are over 22,000 UC patient care and service workers fighting for better contracts.

In 2012, medical centers made $400 million in profits. Yet, they are cutting staff to the bone and creating dangerous conditions for patients and workers. The UC is also demanding unlimited hikes to health care and drastic pension cuts.

Meanwhile, UC executive can expect pension up to 375K/year when they retire - 3 times the cap for all other state employees.

The UC has the ability to provide workers and patients an effective and safe environment; they are instead choosing to line their own pockets. The UC is putting profits over patients.
