STOP the Repeal of the Big Box Ordinance

UFCW 8GS and the Sacramento CLC are working together to stop the Sacramento City Council from repealing the city's Big Box Ordinance.

Wal-Mart and their millionaire supporters are attempting to destroy the middle class. They pay low wages, avoid providing healthcare, and destroy good jobs in the community.

And now, Wal-Mart and its advocates are attempting to eliminate our defense against it – Sacramento’s Big Box Ordinance.

The ordinance requires big box retailers to complete an economic impact analysis of what the store would do to the community. Essentially it protects communities from blight, which includes the closing of neighborhood stores.

Wal-Mart has a history of creating blight and is attempting to destroy the Big Box Ordinance by repealing it through the Sacramento City Council, which is now reviewing the ordinance.

The city held a public workshop regarding the ordinance in which labor had over 70 people advocating against the repeal.

We’ve also met with the Sacramento City’s Planning Commission and discussed how the repeal would devastate the surrounding neighborhoods and communities.

The next steps are convincing the City Council Members that we do not want the ordinance repealed.

We must tell the Sacramento City Manager and city council members "STOP THE REPEAL of the Big Box Ordinance. It protects local neighborhoods."

To help, click here to download a template letter you can customize and send to the City Council Members asking them to protect our communities and save the Big Box Ordinance.

And the Big Box Ordinance was repealed. Brought to you by Region Builders, the same construction owners who are trying to deny Sacramento voters a voice on the arena subsidy.
