Loaves and Fishes

For over 30 years, working families have volunteered their time on Labor Day to help serve the attendees of Loaves & Fishes.

This annual Labor Day tradition brings together many Labor Leaders, rank & file members and elected officials to assist the members of our community who have found themselves in need of the food assistance program provided by Loaves & Fishes.

This year, 37 volunteers show up at the Loaves & Fishes facility at 7:00am to begin to BBQ, chop vegetables and prepare the fixings for the lunch program. At 10:00am, another team of 30 volunteers show up to begin to serve the BBQ chicken lunch to the guests of Loaves & Fishes.

The Sacramento Bee also reported on this Labor Day tradition and the efforts of the volunteers, with a featured story on the front page of the “Our Region” section of the next days Sacramento Bee, complete with a few pictures of our volunteers.

Thanks to all the Labor Unions who financially supported our annual Loaves & Fishes Lunch, and a special thank you goes out to all of the volunteers who gave of their time on Labor Day to carry on this long-standing AFL-CIO tradition!
