Tom's Closet is a Sacramento Central Labor Food Bank established to assist union families who were in need of food to feed their families.
Union members who are in need of food assistance, should reach out to their Local Union Representative, and they will contact the Community Services Liaison to facilitate filling the food needs of your family.
Food donations are accepted throughout the year for Tom's Food Closet.

Stamp Out Hunger- National Letter Carrier Union Food Drive
For the last quarter century, every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. The National Association of Letter Carrier's Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
Volunteers are invited to help the Letter Carriers organize all the day's local donations in Sacramento.
Take up a Toilet Paper Collection
in your Union Facility!
Every year, our local community non-profit agencies divert thousands of dollars to purchase toilet paper for their facilities, from vital programs that assist our members.
The 8th annual Toilet Paper Drive will benefit many local Non-Profit Agencies who assist the Community & our Members!
For over 30 years, our organized labor Brothers & Sisters have given back to the community on Labor Day by volunteering to prepare and serve a BBQ lunch at Loaves & Fishes for Sacramentans suffering homelessness.
This is one of our most rewarding and therefore popular volunteer events. Our Union members can volunteer for 1 of 2 shifts- the food-prep shift from 7am-10am, or the food service shift from 10am-1pm.
At the event, we also distribute all the travel toiletry donations we've collected throughout the year to our houseless guests.
Volunteer shifts for this event are very limited, so if you'd like to volunteer this Labor Day, please contact our Community Services Liaison via email to sign up today! GLarkins@SacramentoLabor.org
This October 6th marks the 7th year for our annual Tom Lawson Community Impact Golf Tournament! Sign up to play, and/or sponsor this fun event . Contact Greg Larkins, our Community Services Liaison via email for more details: GLarkins@SacramentoLabor.org

Holiday Canned Food Drive
Our Holiday Canned Food drive helps supplement our Operation Christmas Program & replenish Tom’s Food Closet.
Your Local Union's collection efforts go directly to assist your members who are struggling, by providing them with food assistance over the holiday season and throughout the year.
We encourage each Local Union to start up a collection site at their Union Office, Hiring Hall or Apprenticeship Center.
The Community Services Department will assist Local Unions collection efforts, by providing them with a 55 gallon barrel, painted and decorated in Holiday colors, along with posters to hang-up and flyers to distribute among staff and members.
We will also set-up numerous collection barrels around the Labor Center, so when you and your members visit the Central Labor Council they can deposit their canned food donations in the bright holiday containers located around the building.
Please contact our Community Services Liaison, Greg Larkins for more information: GLarkins@SacramentoLabor.org
Operation Christmas Basket
Operation Christmas Basket is a program that provides Union Working Families who are struggling, with a complete holiday dinner & age-appropriate gifts for their children at Christmas.
Our Unions submit the names of our member families who are struggling to the Sacramento Central Labor Council, and then we coordinate with California Emergency Food Link to put together all of the fixings for a Christmas Dinner for these families. Donations are needed, and volunteers are appreciated to help sort donations and gifts. Please contact either our Community Services Liaison, Greg Larkins or our Office Manager, Teresa Villasenor to volunteer or donate to this wonderful program! Starr King Elementary Holiday Program
Every Holiday Season, the Sacramento Central Labor Council throws a party for the students, dedicated teachers and staff of the Ralph Richardson Center at the Starr King Elementary School. The Ralph Richardson Center supports students most significantly impacted by their disabilities, so we are especially honored each year to visit with the children and make sure that our Sac Metro Firefighters can find their way to deliver Santa and Mrs. Clause to the party so they are able to join in the fun too!
The Sacramento Central Labor Council is gladly accepting monetary donations to help purchase a plush toy for each child, and provide cake and refreshments for the adults. Please contact our Office Manager Teresa Villasenor for more info: Teresa@SacramentoLabor.org
